Multimode optical fibre gyroscope

The gyroscope has emitting and detecting units (11,12) which are connected by a coupler (17) and a Y junction (18) before entering an optical loop (13) which includes modulation units (14). A processsing unit (15) controls the modulation units and receives output signals from the detection unit (12). A birefracting photoreactive crystal (16) is installed in the optical loop (13) and acts as a double phase conjugating mirror such that light arriving on either side acts as a wave pump to phase conjugate the incident wave on the other side . Means of polarising the equipment are also included.
