Preparation of 1-alkoxy-2-methyl-1,3-butadiene compounds by catalytic dealkoxylation of 1,1,3-trialkoxy-2-methyl-butane compound using aluminum silicate catalyst. Catalytic dealkoxylation of 1,1,3-trialkoxy-2-methyl-butane of formula (I) to give the corresponding 1-alkoxy-2-methyl-1,3-butadiene of formula (II) in the gas phase comprises using an aluminum silicate with a specific surface, especially of 5-50 m<2>/g.
