The rear floor pan of the vehicle is made of thinner metal than the rest of the floor pan for weight saving. Cut-outs (5) on either side of the floor pan take thicker walled inserts (7) which also carry the weld flanges (8) for securing to the wheel arches and to the rear support frame (4). The inserts can be secured into the cut-outs with adhesive or they can be attached by spot welds on mating flanges. No double skin reinforcing is required.
