<p>An electrical signal representative of a signature for verification is generated in electrodes of a piezoelectric layer 16, supported by a ridged area 18, by signing on a region 14 over the layer 16. As the tip of a pen 15 crosses the ridges variations in pressure in the layer 16 occur and varying voltages corresponding to ridge crossings are generated. Signals dependent on these varying voltages are used by a programmed integrated circuit 17 in verifying signatures. In other embodiments one or more comb-like electrodes can be used to, in effect, replace the ridges.</p> |
