PURPOSE:To provide a compact battery charger by a method in which normally first and second batteries are charged by first and second chargers, while during a power interruption or a drop in input voltage the batteries are connected in series through a switch and charged by a power source having a voltage equivalent to the sum of the battery voltages. CONSTITUTION:Normally, a first battery 117 is charged by a first charger 115, and a second battery 118 is charged by a second charger 116. During a power interruption, or if a drop in a.c. voltage occurs, the first and second batteries 117 and 118 are connected in series through a switch 119. In this case, a voltage equivalent to the sum of VA(A) and VB(B) for the batteries 117 and 118 is applied to the d.c. line on the primary winding 105. In this configuration, it is possible to compact the batteries as well as the chargers. |
