PURPOSE:To produce a catalytic electrode used in an electrochemical device and having high activity to an electrode reaction in spite of a small amt. of a catalyst used by supporting a metal having catalytic action to the desired electrode reaction on an electrically conductive polymer. CONSTITUTION:An electrically conductive polymer produced by electrolytic polymn., e.g. polyacetylene is molded into an electrode shape and immersed in an electrolytic soln. contg. PtCl6 ions and electric current is supplied with the polymer as a positive electrode to impregnate the PtCl6 ions as a dopant into the polymer. This polymer is taken out of the electrolytic soln. and immersed in a soln. of a reducing agent such as sodium borohydride or dimethylamine boran to reduce the ions. The ions may be thermally decomposed in an autoclave. Pt is deposited by reduction and fine Pt particles are uniformly dispersed in the electrically conductive polymer. Pt or PtCl6 to be reduced later may be incorporated into the electrically conductive polymer at the time of electrolytic polymn. A catalytic electrode having a large practical catalytic reaction area can easily be produced. |
