The converter circuit has at least one branch with an integral number of thyristors (GTO1,GTO2) which can be switched off and with antiparallel diodes (D1,D2) connected in antiparallel to the thyristors. The branch or each branch is connected to a d.c. voltage source. The central node point of the branch or of each branch forms a load connection. Current and voltage gradient limiters (L, D3; C1, C2) protect the thyristors against excessive voltage and current gradients. The thyristors are hard driven and the limiters (snubbers) contain at least one capacitor (C1, C2) per branch connected in parallel with one of the antiparallel diodes of each thyristor. |
