<p>A filter assembly comprises a cylindrical metal housing 18, a plastics body 30, filter material 60, 62 and a moulded element 70. A disc of filter material is located at each end of the plastics body to cover the apertures 34, 36 of an orifice 32 provided therein. The orifice defines the fluid flow path through the plastics body which is provided with positioning ribs on its external surface (46, 47, 48, figure 2). The ribs engage the internal wall of the housing and define cavities (66, 67, 68, figure 2). The moulded element is formed using conventional injection moulding techniques and acts to define the flow path 74, 80 to the plastic body orifice. The moulded element fills the cavities and retains the components of the assembly in place. A method for injection moulding the moulded element and for constructing the assembly is also disclosed. The assembly is suitable for use in a motor vehicle transmission assemblage, fuel pump or vehicle axle.</p> |
