PURPOSE:To obtain the title molded product having a low rate of dimensional changes due to moisture absorption by modifying only the surface without damaging the molded product, by treating a poly-p-phenylene terephthalamide polymer molding with a specified soln. mixture. CONSTITUTION:At least 1wt% compd. (a) of formula I (wherein R and R' are each H, CH3 or C2H5) (e.g., formaldehyde) is mixed with 0.1-2.0mol [per mol of the component (a)] of a hydrogen halide (b) of formula II (wherein X is Cl or Br), 0.01-0.50mol [per mol of the component (a)] of zinc chloride as a catalyst and optionally, an inert solvent (d) other than arom. hydrocarbons to obtain a soln. mixture (B). A poly-p-phenylene terephthalamide polymer molding (A) composed of repeating units of formulas III and/or IV (wherein Ar1, Ar2 and Ar3 are each a bivalent arom. cyclic group) wherein at least 85mol% of amide linkages is formed from an arom. cyclic diamine and an arom. cyclic dicarboxylic acid component is treated with the component B at a temp. of 0 deg.C to the b.p. of the treating soln., pref. 5-100 deg.C for 1sec-5hr. |
