PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a lipid A having high immunizing activity on an organism and low in toxicity. SOLUTION: This lipid A is a complex of sugars and fatty acids bonded to the sugars with ester bond and fatty acids bonded to the sugars with amide bond. In the lipid A, (1) the sugars consist of glucosamine, mannose or a sugar whose name is unknown, (2) the fatty acids, which are bonded to sugars with ester bond, are normal saturated fatty acids having a carbon number of 12, (3) the fatty acids, which are bonded to sugars with amide bond, consist of normal unsaturated fatty acids having a carbon number of 14, in which the bond between the terminal carbon and the second carbon from the end is a double bond, and a normal saturated fatty acid having a carbon number of 14, in which a hydrogen atom attached on the third carbon from the end is substituted with a hydroxyl group, (4) the compound is free from phosphorus, and (5) the mass of the compound is 1928.9. |
