The combined viscous and fluid coupling comprises a driving part and driven housing part to enclose a second driven coupling a boss with plates fixed alternately to the boss and housing. A switch has a weight joined speed-responsively to the driving part and a ring joined to housing or boss. The weight (18) consists of a springloaded governor weight (22) with a lever arm (23) wich ends in a tooth (24) to engage the toothing of the ring (19). Below a preset speed, the weight arm tooth engages the ring under spring load. USE/ADVANTAGE - I.C. engine, differentials. Coupling opens and closes automatically depending on eingine speed and can be adjusted to suit engine type and rating.
