The arrangement is provided with a backlash compensation control arrangement (203, 204, 205) for compensating backlash errors of the positioning members (12, 13, 15) along the respective axes (x, y, z). This arrangement includes a memory (214) for storing backlash compensation values for each of a plurality of different driving modes, including a plurality of feed length modes defined on the basis of feed length, editing, memory operation, tape operation, MDI operation, different kinds of handle feed, jog feed, rapid feed, zero-return and the like type of variable.
