The present invention relates to a process for the production of human interferon of the fibroblast type (.beta.) and of the leukocyte type (.alp ha.), which comprises introducing human genomic DNA into a suitable phage and either infecting a suitable bacteria by such phage recombinant, or recovering from such phage a suitable DNA segment, introducing same into the expression plasmid of a suitable bacterium, cultivating such bacteria and recovering the interferon.
