<p>A seat, in particular a stool, has a seat surface (7) which is connected to a seat support (3) through a pivotal axis (5) and a seat back (13) which is angularly movable relative to the seat surface (7), with a gas spring (17) which can be manually locked through an actuating device (19) to control the angular position of the seat back (13). The seat surface (7) adopts a first position under load and a second position when vacated, and a pivotal movement from the first position into the second position about the pivotal axis (5) causes a switching movement of a switching device (47) through which the gas spring (17) is released from its locked position to move the seat back (13) into a rest position. This ensures that the seat back (13) is automatically restored to its rest position when the seat is not being used.</p> |
