A method for recording and reproducing a digital video tape for trick play is provided that increases an image renewal rate by recording trick play data for a low speed operation on audio sector. The method for recording a digital video tape including an ATV signal which is applied at a predetermined interval and having frame data capable of decoding is divided to a normal play data and a trick play data, where plural frame data selected corresponding to the maximum double speed of the plural frame data are repeatedly recorded on a predetermined position of each video sector of tracks of double number of the maximum double speed number, the other frame data selected corresponding to a first and a second low double speed of the plural data are repeatedly recorded on a first region of each audio sector of the tracks of double number of the second low double speed number to be provided to be a part of the trick play data of the first and the second low double speed, and the other frame data selected corresponding to the first low double speed of the plural frame data are repeatedly recorded at a second region of each audio sector of the tracks of a double number of the first low double speed number to be provided as a part of the track play data of the first low double speed.
