The gear holder includes a pair of storage recesses (112,121), which hold the faces of axle stubs (21) of a gear wheel in a sliding door control unit. The door has sliders moving inside a guide rail (5), which support door sections on pendant mountings. The sliders are dragged by a chain or belt (3) drive. The end of the guide rail has a support for the gear wheel (2) over which the belt drive is looped. The holder has an integrally formed belt guide (122) near at least one (121) of the storage recesses. The spacing between the opposing faces of the storage recesses is smaller than the distance between the terminating plates of the gear wheel.
