New stereo-rigid metallocene compounds of formula (I). In (I), M1 = a Group IIIb, IVb, Vb or VIb metal; M2 = carbon, silicon or germanium; R1, R2 = H, 1-40 C carbon containing group such as 1-10 C alkyl or alkoxy, 6-10 C aryl, 6-25 C aryloxy, 2-10 C alkenyl, 7-40 C aralkyl or aralkenyl, OH, halogen or N(R15)2 (with R15 = halogen, 1-10 C alkyl or 6-10 C aryl), or R1 + R2 may form part of a ring system; R3-R9 = H, halogen, a 1-40 C group such as optionally halogenated 1-10 C alkyl or 6-30 C aryl, 6-20 C aryloxy, 2-12 C alkenyl, 7-40 C aralkyl or alkaryl, 8-40 C aralkenyl, -Si(R15)3, -N(R15)2, -Si(OR15)3, -Si(SR15)3 or -P(R15)2 (with R15 = as above or a ring system), or two or more adjacent groups R3-R9 may form part of a ring system, preferably with 4-40 (6-20) carbon atoms; R10, R13, R14 = 1-20 C alkyl (preferably the same); R11, R12 = H, a 1-40 C group such as 1-20 C alkyl, 1-10 C alkoxy, 6-20 C aryl, 2-12 C alkenyl, 7-40 C aralkyl or alkaryl, or 8-40 C aralkenyl, optionally with substituents such as halogen, -N(R15)3, -S(R15)2 (sic), -Si(R15)3 or -OSi(R15)3 (with R15 as above); and in which the ligand system is other than 4-( epsilon <5>-3'- alkylcyclopentadienyl)- 4,6,6- trimethyl- ( epsilon <5>-2-alkyl-4,5- tetrahydropentalene). Also claimed are catalysts containing (a) compound(s) of formula (I) and (b) cocatalyst(s).
