IMPROVED PROCESS FOR THE SYNTHESIS OF BETA-KETONITRILES

An improved process for the preparation of beta -ketonitrile is described where an alpha - beta -enone hydrocyanated in the presence of a tetraalkylammonium hydroxide and acetone cyanohydrin to the desired product as well as the use of beta -ketonitriles in the preparation of hydroxybutenolides.
