Preparation of a sun-cream (I) consists essentially of the extraction from a tree of the species Garcinia Mangostana of a mangostine rich product (II), dissolving (II) in a fat phase and mixing the fat phase with an aqueous phase. Also claimed are sun-creams containing mangostine. (II) is obtained from the fruit of the tree, particularly the dried shell and pedoncules of the fruit. These parts of the fruit are ground up and mixed with a solvent, the dissolved mangostine is extracted and the solvent evaporated. The resulting product is precipitated in an aqueous medium, dried and ground, to give a mangostine rich powder (III). (I) comprises about 10% by mass of (III).
