An apparatus and a method for testing an eyesight of a television set is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a remote controller(3), an amplifier(4) for amplifying the output signal from the remote controller(3); a microcomputer(5) for controlling each operation of units based on the output signal from the amplifier(4), an OSD controller(6) for providing a landolt character set or an image to a switch(7) according to the control signal from the microcomputer(5); an image signal processing unit (8) for processing the switched image signal provided from the switch(7); a CPT(Color Picture Tube) controller(9) for controlling a CPT(10) based on the image signal provided from the image signal processing unit(8); and the CPT(10) for displaying the inputted image signal. Thereby, an eyesight testing is capable during watching a television broadcasting program.
