<p>The invention comprises a conduit (16) that is at least partially encased within a containment housing (40). The housing (40) provides structure for containment of fluids from a leaking or totally failed conduit (16) and for automatically shutting off the flow of fluid through the leaking conduit (16). A valve (62) is attached to the conduit so that it is in fluid flow relationship with the conduit (16). The valve (62) is biased toward a closed position, but is held open by a release (84) located within the containment chamber (59), defined as the space between the exterior of the conduit and the interior of the containment housing (40). When a predetermined fluid leaks from the conduit (16) into the containment chamber (59) the block (82) expands and thereby operatively engages the release (84) so that the valve (62) moves to the closed position blocking the flow of fluid through the conduit (16).</p> |
