<p>A hand-held tape dispenser (15, 215, 315, 415) has a tape support hub (26, 226, 327, 427) and a support frame (20, 220, 320, 420). A brake assembly (28, 228, 328, 428) is pivotally mounted on the frame, and has a curved brake actuator (30, 230, 330, 430) and flat brake plate (32, 232, 332, 432). The brake plate is aligned to engage a tape roll mounted on the tape support hub and inhibit its free rotation (and dispensing) according to an operator's selection of applied pressure. The brake plate bends about the tape roll as pressure is increased to facilitate tape cutting or tape stretching (in the case of stretchable tape in the dispenser).</p> |
