The washing machine has a program selection to set the type of fabric in the garments being washed and the washing program according to the required washing temperature with a mixed load of different types of garment fabrics. The program control operates the washing machine cycles according to the program parameters. A unit measures the volume of the load and/or the parameters according to the type of load. A further program has at least two program sections in the main washing program, where one is selected according to the measured parameters.
