The controller includes a transceiver (4) which is capable to transmit signals to an external transceiver (6) and to receive signals from the external transceiver. Preferably, a transmission line (6') is provided from the external transceiver to a helmet monitor (7) and is connected to the helmet. The helmet monitor can be clamped to the front edge of a safety helmet using clamping screws and can be swivelled using hinged rods and clamping screws.
