The locking device is used for preventing forwards or reverse movement of the vehicle and has a locking element (8) within the gearbox housing (6), cooperating with a locking disc (2) attached to the gear switching shaft (1). The locking element is operated when the gear selection lever is moved into the parked position and is released from the locking position via an electromagnetic setting device (10) when the clutch and/or brake pedal is operated while the vehicle is stationary.
