The water heater consists of a rotating verticle shaft with windmill blades at its top and a series of permanent magnets at its bottom. The force of the wind rotates the shaft and causes the magnets to induce a current in a conductor surrounding the magnets. The current heats the conductor which is in thermal contact with the water. Heat-exchange fins extend from the conductor into the space occupied by the water. The tank may be serpentine in shape or an envelope round the conductor. The water may be agitated mechanically. |
