The use of carbohydrate cpds. (I) as ancillaries for dyeing or printing fibrous materials with reactive dyes is claimed. (I) are of the formula Z-G-T-R<1>n; in which Z = the residue of a mono-, di- or oligosaccharide or a sugar alcohol with the free valency on a C atom; G = an -O-, -NR<5>-, -O-CO-, -NR<5>-CO- or -NR<5>-SO2- bridge; R<5> = H or 1-4 C alkyl, opt. mono- to tetra-substd. by OH, SO3H, OSO3H or COOH; T = 4-20 C aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or olefinic hydrocarbyl, 6-10 C aryl or 6-10 C aryl-(1-4 C)-alkylene; R<1> = OH, COOH, CN, 1-4 C alkyl, 1-4 C alkoxy, SO3H, 1-10 C alkylsulphonyl, aminosulphonyl, 1-10 C alkylcarbonylamino, 1-10 C alkoxycarbonyl or aminocarbonyl, in which the alkyl or aryl gps. may have OH, NH2, NO2, CN, OMe, SO3H and/or COOH substit(s).; n = 0-3. Also claimed are pad dyeing baths, printing pastes, ink jet inks and dye formulations contg. (I).
