The compressor has a cylinder block with suction chamber, axial cylinder bores, and front and rear radial central bores. Each bore contains a double-acting piston. Front and rear housings are clamped to the axial block ends, and contain discharge chambers, for connection to the cylinder bores. A drive shaft with swashplate is located in the suction chamber, and the plate is fastened to the drive shaft at an angle. Each piston is held by the plate via a thrust unit. Front and rear suction valves in the bores are subjected to an under/discharge pressure of the cooling medium gas. The valves are fixed to the drive shaft, and each has a fluid line connected to the suction chamber. USE/ADVANTAGE - Compressor using swashplate is for use in air conditioning plant in motor vehicle, and is of compact construction with sufficiently strong cylinder block arrangement.
