The control device (4) checks the amplitude and phase parameters of the analogue sensor signals (S1,S2) provided by the position measuring device (1,3), using a number of calculated values for the radius of a Lissajous figure representing the signals. The control device has a display field (8) in which the width of the variation in the calculated radius is indicated by a linear bar (9), the position of which corresponds to the mean radius.
