The device consists of a heat exchanger (2) with exhaust channel (3) and parallel cooling medium channel (4). One outer wall (6) of the heat exchanger has an opening (7). A heat exchanger container (8) on the fuel distributor (9) projects into the cooling medium channel through the opening. The fuel flow to the internal combustion engine passes through the heat exchanger container. The exhaust channel is part of an exhaust recirculation pipe, which is controlled by a regulatable exhaust recirculation valve.
