<p>Waste is processed in a pair of blast furnaces. Waste containing toxic organic material is added to the batch (2) in the first blast furnace and undergoes blast furnace processing, whereas the contaminated blast-furnace gas and products are removed from the first blast furnace and led into the second blast furnace, and then to the area of the melted charge (2) and highest furnace temperatures along with the combustion air and fuel, whereupon the pollutants are at least partially burnt, and then the blast furnace gas from the second blast furnace is removed for normal treatment. Waste is preferably enriched with added fine-grain sediment containing iron oxide. The apparatus required consists of two blast furnaces, where the outlet (3) of the blast furnace gas from the first blast furnace is attached to the inlet to the exhaust tuyeres (5) of the second blast furnace and possibly to the first blast furnace through a gas purifier (6).<IMAGE></p> |
