PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To recover precisely the ink discharge capability of a recording head in accordance with environment and ink cartridge mounting time. SOLUTION: The ink discharge capability is recovered by providing a mounting time detection means 35 which detects a time period when an ink cartridge is mounted, a temperature detection means 36 which detects environmental temperature, a sealing time detection means 38 which detects a time when a recording head is sealed by a capping means, and an idle discharge control means 33 which makes a recording head 6 retreat to the position of the capping means on the basis of signals at least from the mounting time detection means 35 and the temperature detection means 36, and determines the interval of flushing while timing the performance of appropriate flushing to a change in the discharge condition of ink drops from nozzle openings occurs, and preventing an unnecessary drop in printing speed and ink consumption just after the recording head is released and during printing. |
