PRODUCTION OF SUPPORTING MATERIAL FOR USE WITH FILTER MEDIUM

PURPOSE: To provide a support material having allowable levels of properties in the fields of a pressure drop, strength and an edge flow property and hardly causing remarkable damage to the properties especially when used with a microporous membrane and to provide its preparation method and a filter provided with the same. CONSTITUTION: This preparation method of the support material for the filter medium comprises passing a fibrous polymeric nonwoven sheet having first and second sides through a calender consisting of a nondeformable roll and a resilient roll while keeping the temperature of the nondeformable roll below the melting point of the sheet by >=25 deg.C to increase the smoothness of the first side of the sheet contacted with the resilient roll. The support material thus prepared and the filter comprising the filter medium and the supporting material are also provided.
