PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new compound comprising a specific imidazothiazole derivative, exhibiting inclination forming a liquid crystal phase, especially an inclined smectic phase, suitable for chiral liquid crystal components, chiral dopant, etc., and useful for electrooptic apparatus, etc. SOLUTION: This new imidazothiazole derivative is represented by formula I (m) and (n) are each 0 or 1; R<1> is R<3> (R<3> is an alkyl or an alkylene in which methylene group or plural methylene groups which are not adjacent may be replaced with O, COO or OOC and/or H or plural H atoms may be replaced with Cl), Q<1> [Q<1> is a group, etc., of formula II (R<5> is an alkyl, an alkenyl, etc.)], etc.; R<2> is R<4> (R<4> is same kind of a group as R<3> ), Q<2> (Q<2> is same kind of a group as Q<1> ), etc.; A<1> and A<2> are each trans-1,4-cyclohexylene or (substituted) 1,4-phenylene; Z<1> and Z<2> are each a single bond, CH2 CH2 , OCH2 , CH2 O, COO, C≡C, etc.}. The derivative is suitable as a chiral liquid crystal component and dopant, etc., and useful for optical or electrooptical apparatus. |
