PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a television camera with high image quality in which increase in flicker is suppressed under a blinked light source. SOLUTION: The image pickup device is provided with a variable gain amplifier 5 that amplifies a signal A outputted from a photoelectric conversion element 2 whose signal charge storage time is controlled, and a gain of the variable gain amplifier 5 is controlled when the signal charge storage time of the picture element 2 corresponds to a flicker suppressing value Kanto area: 1/100±0.5TTH seconds, Kansai area: 1/120±0.5TH seconds) so as to make a signal amount of an output signal B constant against increase/decrease in a luminous quantity of an incident light.
