PURPOSE: To obtain a stable and safe external agent for skin, free from adverse effect and useful as a skin cosmetic, an antiinflammatory agent, a healing agent for wound, etc., effective on prevention of aging of skin, improvement of chapped skin, etc. CONSTITUTION: This external agent for skin is obtained by blending sterol ester ofα-hydroxylic acid as a proliferation promotor for subdermal fibroblast. The sterol ester ofα-hydroxylic acid exhibits lipophilic property and has good percutaneous absorption and exhibits action for promoting proliferation of fibroblast in a minute amount. The sterol ester is stable in the external preparation and hardly causes adverse action of skin irritation. The amount of the sterol ester blended with the external preparation for skin is preferably about 0.001-20.0wt.%.
