PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suit with a standard digital print system which has a high address designation ability by producing homogeneous pulse distribution in low and high luminance image regions, maintaining standard error diffusion response in a halftone region. SOLUTION: An error that is defined through pixel quantization is stored in an error RAM 32 until an image signal that needs error addition is transferred to a system. Next, a previous quantization error part is sent to an adder 50 from part error registers 52 to 56 and an error register 30, and the registers 52 to 56 move an error signal among the registers when one line data is sent. The error signal is sent to each multiplier A to D based on error diffusion by utilizing a weighting method that is selected in a desired way. An adder 50 generates a signalε(n, l) that is added to I(n, l), makes it a correction image signal and gives a correction image signal that is the sum of an input image signal and an error correction signal of a previous image as I(n, l)+ε(n, l).
