PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a sheetlike pack agent excellent in strength, usage and packing effects. SOLUTION: An alkali aqueous solution of aβ-1,3-glucan is sprayed on the surface of paper or nonwoven fabric or a water dispersion of theβ-1,3-glucan is sprayed and then an aqueous solution of an alkali is sprayed or the paper or the nonwoven fabric is immersed in an aqueous solution of a divalent or a polyvalent metal salt and then theβ-1,3-glucan is gelatinized. Then the gel- coated paper or nonwoven fabric is neutralized, washed with water and dried to give a sheetlike pack agent obtained by coating the surface of the paper or nonwoven fabric with theβ-1,3-glucan. The pack agent can also be produced by spraying an aqueous solution of theβ-1,3-glucan on the surface of the paper or nonwoven fabric, heating to 80-150 deg.C and drying.
