Waste material is heat-treated in a combustion chamber, forming slag releasing combustion gases. From these the filter dust is separated and returned to the combustion chamber. The density of the pressings into which the dust is formed is at least equal to that of the slag. The chamber can be part of a low-temperature carbonisation system, while the density of the pressings can be at least 2g/cm-3.
