An auxiliary mechanism makes location of a preferred seat position easier and is adjustable on an upper (1) or lower (2) rail section. In the adjusted position, the auxiliary mechanism has a lockable setting component (4) in which is formed either a locking recess (7) or a spring-loaded ball (5). In the adjusted position the ball engages in the recess in its counterpart component.
