Production of water-based impregnating agent

Preparation of an impregnating agent (I), especially for wood, comprises forming an emulsion, dispersion or solution (especially containing a cationic, quaternary, amphoteric or particularly non-ionic surfactant) having a dispersed phase with an average particle and/or drop diameter of less than 1.2 microns. Also claimed is an impregnation agent prepared as above, containing an impregnating agent comprising a non-ionic surfactant selected from a fatty amino-oxide, aminoethoxylate and/or an adduct of an ethyleneoxide with a heteroatom that can be protonated. Preferably the non-ionic surfactant is a protonated fatty amino-oxide, aminoethoxylate and/or an adduct of an ethyleneoxide.
