The invention concerns a container and a method of producing the same. The container comprises a lateral container wall with a support surface for a closure foil (2) which can be detachably connected to the lateral container wall at the support surface under the effect of heat. According to the invention, the lateral container wall is made of plastics, and the width of the support surface is at most equal to the thickness (w) of the container wall. There is no need for a so-called sealing edge, as used in the case of prior art pots. The support surface comprises at least one peripheral depression (11, 12, 13) for accommodating container wall material (6) which is displaced during the connection of the closure foil and container wall. The depression can also receive material of a product (3) connecting the closure foil and the lateral container wall. According to the invention, the pot is produced in that the closure foil is positioned on the support surface, is heated at least in the region of the support surface to a predetermined temperature and is then pressed by a predetermined distance (S) onto the lateral container wall.
