Sound-damping composite

A novel composite (10) includes a panel of rigid foam (16), preferably expanded polystyrene, with a second rigid foam panel (14) preferably of the same material. These are bonded locally, largely maintaining parallelism, with some clearance. To the second foam panel, a comparatively hard cladding panel (e.g. plasterboard (12)) is fully bonded. Preferably the clearance between foam plates is 1-5 mm and their thicknesses differ. One comprises an elasticised polystyrene foam. The foam plates are bonded by bead lines of adhesive, spaced by about 9 cm.
