<p>The invention provides a method of setting a cutting tool (7) in a thermoforming press producing formings (9) from sheet plastics (13) of the kind in which the formings (9) are made in one station (15) and are cut from the sheet in a subsequent station having a pair of relatively movable cutter platens (1, 11) and in which the sheet (13) is moved in step-wise fashion between the forming and cutting stations, characterised by mounting a cutting tool (7) on a ferro-magnetic backing member (6), providing one (1) of the pair of cutting platens (1, 11) with an electro-magnetic chuck (5), disposing a section of formed sheet (9, 13) in the cutting station (15) on the other (11) of the said cutter platens (1, 11), placing the cutting tool (7) on the sheet (13) in a desired position using a forming (9) as a guide, lowering the said one (1) of the cutter platens to lie adjacent to the ferro-magnetic backing member (6) of the cutting tool (7) and energising the magnetic chuck (5) whereby the cutting tool (7) is firmly fixed to the said platen (1) in the required position.</p> |
