New ester-quat compounds with high viscosity in aqueous solution

New ester-quats (I) (i.e. quaternised fatty acid triethanolamine ester salts) are prepared by esterifying mixtures of triethanolamine (II) and diethanolamine (III) in weight ratio 75:35 to 95:5 with fatty acids (IV) and quaternising the reaction products conventionally with alkylating agents. The preparation process is claimed, as well as the product.
