A base unit (14) for a computer housing includes a stand (41), endcaps (43), and pivots (45) for mounting to the bottom of a computer housing. The pivots (45) are secured to the endcaps (43). The endcaps (43) each have a plurality of circumferentially arranged projection members (48) extending from an inner surface of the endcaps (43). Plugs (49) are provided with a generally conical shape and spaced ribs (55) for engaging the spaces between adjacent projection members (48) of the endcaps (43). Each plug (49) is connected to a corresponding endcap (43) by a bolt (46). By tightening the bolts (46), the plugs (49) are driven toward the endcaps (43), thereby forcing the projection members (48) into frictional engagement with the pivots (45).
