A portable refrigerant reclamation and purification apparatus and method removes impurities and contaminants from refrigerant blends and reclaims them. Contaminated refrigerant is introduced through a spray nozzle (15) into a separation chamber (16) and vaporized as it passes over heat exchanger coils (33A-33C), during which the bulk of contaminants are separated from the refrigerant and fall into a sump (22) and the vapors are redirected 180 DEG to an upward flow separating the contaminants from the vapors. Vapors are drawn out through de-misting screens (34A-34F) which strip remaining contaminants from the vapors and pass through a suction accumulator (63) to either a compressor (73) or a vacuum pump (76) where the gases are compressed and passed through a separator (82) to remove oil and then passed either through the separator heat exchangers where their heat is used to vaporized incoming refrigerant and residual refrigerant from waste contaminants in the sump, or to a condenser (32).
