Return device for a motor vehicle steering column

The steering column comprises a steering shaft (1) rotating freely in a tube (2) located in a support element (4) fixed to the chassis. The tube which is adjustable in height is locked in the desired position by a height adjustment system (5). The return system comprises a flexible elastic element (10) which partially surrounds the support. The flexible element anchoring system to the support comprises a fastener (12,13) in the shape of a double width loop (17) located in the corresponding end of the elastic element. The loop has a large diameter circular inlet which is extended by a circular anchoring part of smaller diameter. The loop is constituted by a wire each end of which is provided with a hook extending the circular inlet and able to be engaged in the corresponding end if the elastic element.
