Water in oil cosmetic emulsion with high electrolyte content

A water-in-oil (O/W) emulsion composition (I) with a high electrolyte content contains at least 2 wt.% of at least one water-soluble metal salt (II), at least one hydrophobic gelling agent (III) and at least 5 wt.% of an appropriate emulsifying system (IV). Also claimed is a product comprising (I) and a cosmetic or pharmaceutical active compound likely to irritate the skin.
