Apparatus for determining the flash point of a product

The method contains the liquid (2) whose flash point is to be determined in a test flask (1) which has a pan (1a) and a lid (1b). The liquid is heated (3) at a preset rate and its temperature is read directly by a thermometer (6). A flame (5) which is calibrated in accordance with the relevant standards eventually causes combustion and is then itself extinguished. The fall in illumination intensity is detected by a sensor (7) causing an indicating lamp to light and the temperature to be read. The equipment may be developed further by using an optical fibre and automatically linking changes in illumination intensity to time and temperature.
